Malaga has remained one of Spain’s most popular destinations for years. Situated on the picturesque Costa del Sol, it offers not only beautiful beaches and a rich history, but also a unique climate and… an excellent network of air connections from all corners of the world, including Poland. The popularity of Malaga Airport has increased significantly in recent years, as the latest figures confirm.

For Easter in Spain

According to Q1 2025 figures, Malaga Airport has moved up to the podium among all airports in the Iberian Peninsula. From January to March, it recorded almost 4.8 million passengers – even though in 2025. Easter falls in April rather than March. As many as 1,200 more flights will be available to travellers over the festive period than last year.

According to data from the Civil Aviation Authority (ULC) and Spanish air transport bodies, Malaga is claiming to be one of the fastest growing airports in Europe. In 2024, the airport recorded an increase of up to 84% in the number of passengers from Poland compared to 2023. At the same time, it is highly rated, e.g. in the DiscoverCars survey it was named by travellers as the eighth best in the world.

Reasons for the growing popularity of Malaga Airport

The number of connections between Malaga and Polish cities has increased significantly. Currently, direct flights to the Costa del Sol are offered from the following airports in Poland:

  • Warsaw (Okęcie and Modlin),
  • Kraków,
  • Katowice,
  • Gdansk,
  • Wrocław,
  • Poznań,
  • Łódź.

In addition, the airline has also launched new routes from Vilnius and Ostrava, making Malaga even more accessible to passengers from Central and Eastern Europe and Poles living near the border with Lithuania and the Czech Republic.

Prospects for the future

In addition to famous attractions such as the Alcazaba, La Manquita Cathedral, the Picasso Museum and the Pompidou Centre, Málaga is also an excellent starting point for other famous destinations in Andalusia – Ronda, Seville, Cordoba or Granada.

Over the past few years, Malaga has invested heavily in developing its infrastructure and visitor attractions. New luxury hotels have also been built, and the accommodation options available are also expanding – ensuring that there is something for everyone.

Malaga Airport also has ambitious plans for the future. These include the expansion of the terminals and further modernisation of the infrastructure to handle even more passengers. The airline announces the possibility of increasing the number of flights from Poland to the Costa del Sol, which will certainly translate into a further increase in the airport’s popularity.
