The Estepona area has recently gained another impressive development. The Laguna Beach leisure and catering centre is an architectural gem perfectly integrated into the landscape. During the season, you can sunbathe at the local beach club, and a popular club from Ibiza will soon have its own branch.
Beach club, sushi, eco-fashion
The centre opened this spring. It was built on the site of a tourist complex called Laguna Village, which had been in operation since the 1990s and was destroyed by fire four years ago (fortunately there were no casualties). Laguna Beach covers an area of 13,000 m2. It is located on the first coastline – adjacent to the beautiful Playa del Padron in the eastern suburb of Estepona, in the Los Granados del Mar district.
This luxury development is set to become the region’s leading leisure and hospitality centre. It can be compared to Warsaw’s Norblin Factory or the Powiśle Power Station – the difference being that Laguna has a rather significant advantage over them in the form of a fantastic seaside location. The heart of the venue is the Sublim Beach Club – a beach club with a swimming pool, sunbathing beds, live music played by a DJ and a bar and restaurant. The pool is the only feature in the new Lagoon that remains from the old complex. It emerged from the fire intact.
The beach club in high season runs from spring to the end of October. At the Laguna Beach centre, you can try premium sushi, eating it overlooking the sea. The menu at the Kai restaurant, signed by Madrid chef Ricardo Sanz, features a variety of original dishes alongside traditional sets. The most popular is said to be the huevos rotos with spicy tuna tartare, a Japanese variation of the traditional Spanish egg-based dish.
The lagoon will also be alive at night. As we read on the investment website, the famous Lio club from Ibiza will soon open its branch here. The venue will host cabaret performances with dancers in the evenings. The newly opened centre also houses a shop of the Spanish fashion brand Ecoalf, which prides itself on the sustainable production of its clothes, i.e. taking care of the planet.
Wavy architectural pearl
A trip to Laguna Beach is recommended not only for those who want to eat there, lie by the pool or do some shopping. The new development is a real architectural gem of the region. The building, especially the roof, is shaped like the sea waves and beach dunes it is adjacent to. The architects wanted their work not to disturb the Mediterranean landscape, but to be an extension of it. The Laguna Beach project was prepared by Archidom Studio.
The Pacha Group, an international company, is responsible for the investment. As you can read in its announcement, Laguna is set to revolutionise the Costa del Sol’s social and gastronomic scene. We can already write that our coast has gained another impressive and landscape-matched facility.
