Around Andalusia in 7 days by train, Orient Express style

Is it possible to visit the whole of Andalusia in 7 days? Certainly not, but if you don’t have time to plan a trip around the highlights of this southern region of Spain, we recommend an undoubted treat – a trip on the Al-Andalus luxury train!

The Al-Andalus journey has nothing in common with what we associate with trains in Poland. This luxurious train, decorated in the style of the belle époque, guarantees excellent conditions for all travellers in the 7 carriages of the restored Lits depot, dating from 1929. This is a unique attraction not only in Spain, but in the whole of Europe.

Seven views of Andalusia

By choosing to travel on the Al-Andalus train, you will see the greatest and most important monuments of Andalusia. Indeed, during the journey you will visit cities such as Seville, Cadiz, Ronda, Baeza, Úbeda, Granada and Malaga. The full itinerary is as follows:

  • Day 1: Explore Andalusia’s capital Seville and its most important sights such as the cathedral, Alcazar, Plaza de España and travel by luxury train to Jerez.
  • Day 2: tour Cadiz and travel to Ronda.
  • Day 3: tour of Ronda – a trip to one of Sherry’s most famous vineyards, admiring an equestrian show and visiting the White Village.
  • Day 4: visit Ronda and its attractions – the Alameda del Tajo, the New and Old Bridges, the oldest bullfighting arena in Spain and the Palacio Mondragón – and the day will end with a journey to Córdoba.
  • Day 5: travel and visit Baeza and Ubeda – UNESCO World Heritage cities (read more about them here). At the end of the day, you will embark on a journey to one of Spain’s most famous cities, Granada.
  • Day 6: Organised tour of the Alhambra and Generalife and time to explore the city on your own (if you’re looking for tips, be sure to read our post on Granada).
  • Day 7: end the train journey and travel to Málaga to visit the Alcazaba, a palace from the era of Moorish rule in Andalusia.

You can also take the train in the opposite direction, which starts in Malaga and ends in Seville.

Excellent travel comfort

The itinerary looks interesting, but what about accommodation? Naturally, a private compartment on the train is no match for a luxury flat or villa on the Costa del Sol, but the organisers have made sure that the journey will pass in comfort. Travellers have a choice of two types of accommodation:

  • Grand class room of 8m2, with two single beds. The room has a wardrobe, safe, luggage space, minibar, adjustable air conditioning and an en-suite bathroom with shower and welcome kit. The room acts as both a bedroom and a living room. When folded down, the beds become armchairs, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful views.
  • Deluxe suite of 10m2 – designed to accommodate a large double bed. Additional amenities for travellers include a spacious bathroom with a whirlpool shower and steam sauna. Residents of the suite will also have a wardrobe, safe, minibar and individually regulated air conditioning. During the day, the bed will be transformed into a comfortable sofa, giving travellers great comfort and excellent conditions for admiring the Andalusian olive groves, among other things.

In addition, there are two restaurant carriages where travellers can enjoy the best olive oil (naturally from Andalusia), classic Sherry wine and the best Andalusian cuisine. In addition, the comfort of travellers is supervised 24 hours a day by staff who communicate in several languages.

The price of a 7-day journey on the luxury train including sightseeing is between €8-10,000 for a single person and €9-11,000 for a double room. More information can be found on the Al-Andalus train website.
