We have written about the fact that the sun on the Costa del Sol shines for more than 320 days a year on many occasions. However, sunshine does not always mean heat outside the window, so it is worth taking a closer look at the weather conditions in Marbella. After all, this is of particular importance when planning a holiday or moving to a warmer area of Europe, and Marbella on the Costa del Sol is the perfect place to do so!
Experience the (micro)climate of Marbella
When talking about weather conditions specific to Marbella, it is undoubtedly important to mention the unique microclimate that prevails here. This is due to the city’s location at the foot of the La Concha mountain, which protects it from sudden changes in the weather and guarantees much more favourable weather conditions than in other regions of the country or even in nearby Malaga. While it is hot there, in Marbella, thanks to the lower humidity, we can enjoy slightly lower temperatures in summer and higher temperatures… in winter.

At this point, it is worth mentioning another interesting atmospheric phenomenon, namely the winds blowing along the Costa del Sol, which not only significantly affect the air temperature, but also make the place perfect for water sports. The Poniente and the Levante are successively westerly and easterly winds, blowing from the Atlantic Ocean or the eastern Mediterranean.
Another of the atmospheric phenomena you will experience in Marbella is the taró that occurs in summer. Due to the difference in temperature between the sea and the air, a dense fog then comes over the coast, creating unforgettable views. When planning to come to Marbella at different times of the year, it is also important to bear in mind the difference in temperature experienced in the sun and in the shade. During the three seasons (apart from summer) it can be as much as 10 degrees, so we will be comfortable in the sun wearing short sleeves, while in the shade a thin jacket can sometimes be useful.

Springtime on the Costa del Sol
The spring months on the Costa del Sol are a time when rising temperatures are interspersed with rainy days. However, if you like to relax at close to 20℃, then this time of year will be the best time of year for you to spend your holiday on the south coast of Spain. However, temperatures lower than in summer do not mean that you will only admire the beaches from the terrace of your flat.
The abundance of sunny days means that if you are planning a holiday in April or May, you can easily reserve time to lie on the beach or plan escapades – allowing you to discover the historic charms of Andalusia. Marbella is perfect as a base for trips to Malaga, Granada or even the African continent of Morocco!
See why it’s worth living in Marbella:
Costa del Sol in summer
The summer months on the Costa del Sol – from June to September – are a dream time to visit the Andalusian coast, especially if you want to be guaranteed warm and rain-free weather. During this time, the air temperature stays between 22-31℃, guaranteeing that you can bask in the sun every day and discover the delights of Andalusia.
July and August are the ideal months for those who appreciate high temperatures. If, on the other hand, you prefer slightly cooler but still warm days, it is best to visit the region in June or September. Also worth noting is the water temperature, which can reach as high as 23℃ in the height of summer and around 18℃ in June. For people who are afraid to dip their feet in the cool Baltic Sea even in summer, these are downright heavenly conditions for swimming in the sea, allowing them to find solace on hot days. The fresh breeze blowing in from the sea guarantees a much lower perceptible temperature and hot days do not bother holidaymakers.
Autumn on the Costa del Sol
Autumn in Poland is unequivocally associated with the end of warmth, rain and the coming of winter. The only variety is sometimes the golden leaves of the trees, which can bring a touch of colour to everyday life in temperatures of 10-15℃. However, on the Costa del Sol, autumn days are more reminiscent of a late, warm spring than a Polish autumn. October usually sees a cooling off and more rainy days. If you enjoy sightseeing, discovering local culture and customs, October is the ideal month for these activities. The slightly cooler weather – 15-25℃ – combined with less tourist traffic will allow you to relax on the beach or discover the charms of Andalusia.
Costa del Sol in winter
If you are not a fan of cold and snowy winters, you could not have come to a better place. Winter in Andalusia and the Costa del Sol is more rainy than snowy. However, you won’t experience minus temperatures here. During December-February, the average temperature ranges from 8-20℃ – depending on the time of day. These may not be ideal conditions for beachcombing, but for everyday life they are perfect. One thing is for sure, you can safely leave your down jackets behind in Poland.
On the Costa del Sol, even in January there are days when you can go out to the shops in a short-sleeved T-shirt. Nor should you worry about the conditions for skiing, for example. From Marbella you can get to the mountains in just over two hours, where you will find excellent conditions for skiing on the slopes of the Sierra Nevada, which you can read more about here.
