How is Marbella developing?

Marbella’s status as a luxury resort requires the regional government to take measures that adapt the city to the expectations of tourists visiting the Costa del Sol. For this reason, investments have been planned for the coming years to reinforce the city’s good image.

Promotion of a luxury resort

The regional government has not been idle in building Marbella’s international reputation. The huge interest from tourists and investors in the south coastal town confirms the efforts in areas such as marketing and urban development. The next step is to increase the part of Marbella’s budget known as the ‘Plan Turístico de Grandes Ciudades’ (Grand Cities Tourism Plan) – the authorities have announced an increase of €10 million, spread over the next four years.

The plan proposed by the Marbella authorities will focus on 16 initiatives to contribute to the development of the resort’s brand in areas such as the environment, culture, innovation, marketing or promotion. Very significantly, as announced by the local authority, four million euros will be allocated to the development of Marbella’s beaches, including the purchase of new urban exercise equipment and utility furniture, as well as the expansion and upgrade of existing leisure facilities. Marbella already boasts a wide range of beach facilities dedicated to leisure, which you can read more about here.

Green Marbella

Another major initiative to be undertaken by the local authorities is the development of the city’s parks and gardens – including Xarblanca and El Juanar – and the development of other green spaces in the municipality, such as: Finca El Pinillo and the area around the Guadalpín River. According to the announcement, the Marbella Department of Public Works will allocate almost €7 million in the current calendar year.

Green areas are not only an important area for building the resort’s image, but also form an important part of local community life. The parks, full of exotic vegetation, such as the Alameda Park, serve as a place to meet with the family and to take a break from the sun’s rays, which are present almost all year round on the Costa del Sol.

Desired location

Marbella has for decades enjoyed a reputation as a luxury resort that attracts tourists and investors from all over the world. The long-standing efforts of the local authorities have resulted, among other things, in the city being awarded the title of ‘Best European Destination 2022‘. In a vote by Internet users, Marbella came second, behind only Ljubljana.

Investment in real estate

The past few years have seen significant growth in the real estate market in Marbella. The last few months have seen a record turnover of properties, surpassing the results achieved during the boom period of 2007. A significant influence has been the investment in real estate on the Costa del Sol, carried out both by individual investors and by numerous investment funds, which have bought ready-made properties and also decided to build new development projects – starting from single residences, through flat blocks to entire complexes of luxury properties. As a result of the measures taken, thousands of new homes have been built in Marbella in recent years, with investments worth billions of euros. Many of these properties can be found in Agnes Inversiones’ portfolio of listings, which can be found here.
