CrossFit is a workout that has definitely grown in popularity in recent years. It was created in 2000 by Greg Glassman. Today, crossfit is breaking records in popularity all over the world, including among Costa del Sol residents!
The cradle of this type of exercise can be traced back to West American garage gyms, where young people fiercely trained to achieve the figure of their dreams. Over time, the sport has captured the hearts of exercise enthusiasts in every corner of the world, including Marbella in Spain.
Crossfit is…
…is a type of functional training characterised by high intensity and variety. The variety concerns both the elements performed during the training itself: the number of repetitions and the time they take. It may be that during a training session, a participant will do several handstands, lift weights and sprint for several hundred metres. As you can see, the room for manoeuvre is very large.
How much time should be spent on proper training?
The workout, ranges from a few minutes to several tens of minutes. Additional elements such as a warm-up, practising the elements performed during the workout and stretching at the end add up to more than an hour of exercise. How long the workout itself takes depends on the fitness and condition of the exerciser, i.e. how much time he or she spends performing, for example, four rounds of exercises repeated in specific sequences (RFT – rounds for time). Training can also be limited in advance by a time frame. This is the case when repeating a sequence of exercises continuously for e.g. 10 minutes.
Annual world’s largest competition Nobull Crossfit Games
Once a year, the United States hosts the largest crossfit competition in the world. In the middle of the year, the “Open” qualifiers are held online so that anyone from all over the world can try their hand at it. The best athletes are then selected to compete directly against each other in the later stages. Due to the international nature of the competition, the semi-finals are organised on different continents, in order to make it as easy as possible for participants to take part. The NOBULL clothing brand is currently the main and title sponsor of the competition, but it should be remembered that REEBOK has been the main sponsor from the very beginning. Support from the global sportswear giant has produced many legendary athletes such as Rich Froning, Mathew Fraser and Tia Toomey.
Who is crossfit for?
CrossFit is for EVERYONE! Workouts are run for children, the elderly, as well as people struggling with partial disabilities or whole groups. However, you have to dig a little deeper to see how people with seemingly health obstacles train hard, support each other and are happy winning awards on the world stage in the process. If you haven’t had the chance to try it yet , we encourage you to do so! And what if you like it?
Crossfit on the Costa del Sol
The Costa del Sol is visited by millions of tourists every year, who prefer a variety of leisure activities. Among them, there is no shortage of sports enthusiasts who appreciate the qualities and infrastructure of this region of southern Spain. On the coast alone, there are as many as 32 affiliated crossfit boxes! We can find both large tin hangars with a huge surface area and open spaces or a combination of both. Thanks to the sunny weather that spoils visitors to the Costa del Sol for 320 days a year, in many places you can also train on the beach! If you are looking for a place to train while on holiday in Marbella, we suggest a few places to go:
