Between the city of Jerez de la Fontera and the Atlantic, excellent grape-growing areas can be found. The region is known not only for its excellent wines, the royal riding school, but also for its beautiful and well-maintained golf courses.
Sherry
If you are a fan of sherry, take a look at the Jerez vineyards. Here you can taste delicious dry, semi-dry and sweet varieties of this Spanish and regional speciality made from grapes harvested in the magical triangle between Jerez de la Frontera, Sanlucar de Barramena and Puerto de Santa Maria. It is worth knowing that Christopher Columbus took a large supply of sherry on his voyage to the Americas; you can read more about the history of this wine variety here.
Feria del Caballo
That is, the annual horse show. The event takes place at the beginning of May. The town is famous for its horses called Carthusian horses. Full-blooded Arabians can also be seen at paid shows at the Real Escuela Andaluza del Arte Ecuestre (Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art). It is possible to book a private show and a guided tour of the entire complex.
Also worth a visit is the Museum of Equestrian Art, located in the basement of the Recreo de las Cadenas, a 19th-century building designed by Charles Garnier (the same man who designed the Paris Opera House and the casino in Monte Carlo). Meanwhile, the Carriage House has been opened in an early 19th century vineyard. Where you can admire former luxury vehicles, riding clothes and precious harnesses. Golf courses
It has been known for years that nowhere is business done as well as at the golf club. The entire aristocracy, for centuries managing the family vineyards, now already transformed into big businesses, meets here. The Chapin Club in Jerez was played by Don Jose Ignacio Domecq himself, known as “The Nose”, that is to say the legendary Spanish wine aristocrat, founder of the commercial powerhouse Allied Domecq PLC. We recommend the beautiful Sherry Golf Jerez.
