The Costa del Sol is a safe haven for investors – both individuals and large funds and brands in the hospitality industry. Despite the fact that the tourism industry has recently had to contend with the biggest crisis in history, the number of investments is steadily increasing!
Investment boom
As we previously informed you, despite the prevailing global pandemic, 2021 (figures for the first three quarters) was a record year for property investment in Andalusia. The trend has also been recognised by investors with a focus on the construction of luxury hotels.
According to a recently published forecast by one global real estate investment consultancy and management company, investment in the hotel industry in Spain will reach 2.85 billion in 2022 – of which €355 million will be in the Malaga region, including Marbella!
These figures perfectly illustrate the strong position of Andalusia and the Costa del Sol in terms of hotel investment and real estate development on the world map. According to expert estimates, 29 hotel projects will be completed on the ‘Coast of the Sun’ in the near future, increasing the accommodation base by more than 3,300 rooms.
Luxury accommodation in Marbella
Marbella already has a perfectly developed hotel market, with iconic establishments such as Puente Romano and Marbella Club playing major roles. Tourists who prefer to holiday in hotels have a wide cross-section of establishments at their disposal, from small family-run hotels to establishments belonging to large hotel chains.
This year, another establishment, well known to all visitors to the Costa del Sol, will experience its renaissance. We are talking about the historic Byblos Hotel, which was built in the mid-1980s and has hosted guests such as The Rolling Stones and Princess Diana. The mission to resurrect the Byblos Hotel, under a new name – La Zambra – has been undertaken by global hotel brand Marugal Hotels. There will be 197 rooms with an Andalusian style.
However, this is not the end of big hotel ‘returns’ in Marbella. At the end of January, the Stoneweg Hospitalitys group finalised the purchase of the 5-star Los Monteros hotel, which was built in 1962. This is the group’s second hotel investment in Marbella. It previously acquired the Andalucia Plaza Hotel, which will be transformed into the Hard Rock in Puerto Banús.
