Do you want to buy your dream home in Spain but don’t know what style to go for? Are you looking for a turnkey house or do you want to give the interior a character yourself? Read our short guide to styles and be in no doubt!
Fashionable modernity
Modern style, or what kind of style? The first associations of modern villas on the Costa del Sol: bright, spacious, open to the surroundings, inviting greenery inside, with large windows. Modern houses tend to have flat roofs and balconies stretching along the length of the building, where there is no shortage of sunshine, and shady terraces where you can drink coffee, work, have parties.
All this is maintained in warm earth tones, beiges, browns, greens. The use of natural materials is also characteristic, not only wood, but also stone, linen, wicker, woven grass, soft fabrics. The furniture has simple, neutral shapes and the equipment, such as the sound system, is integrated into the building.
Stronger accents
Often architects and interior decorators choose to introduce a few more expressive elements, iconic furniture or works of modern art. Such strong but balanced armchairs, or abstract paintings covering almost entire walls, give the interiors character, uniqueness and introduce colour. An example of such a house to buy, for example, is the villa designed by Pedro Peña, one of Spain’s most famous architects. The beautiful interiors, full of designer furniture, are complemented by large-format paintings (Peña started his career as a painter). Curious to see how it looks? Take a look at our earlier post: Modern villa in Nueva Andalucia, Although we call it modern style, it’s more of a modern classic that will never go out of fashion!
Traditional Andalusian house
These are homes for lovers of classic elegance who want to live in a space characteristic of Andalusia, feeling hooked on its aesthetics and atmosphere. They are also excellent investments for those who feel an “architectural flair”, like to look for more original furnishings at antique markets, or are looking for a house to buy for rent.
A perfect example of an investment that will not lose its value is this luxury Villa located in the prestigious and gated La Zagaleta estate! The almost 4,500,000sqm estate features an over 1,000-square-metre house with 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms and a swimming pool. In addition, it is situated in a seclusion that gives plenty of privacy (no houses around it) and has a pleasant view of the golf course from its windows and terraces.
How about a patio with a fountain?
What does a classic house in Spain look like? It is, for example, a townhouse, with a patio, with terraces, several bedrooms. It is not only the layout of the building that is classic here: with an internal garden, with a fireplace, but also the layout of the rooms themselves. Such houses usually have columnar arcades, wooden ceilings and parquet floors, traditional flooring. The walls are covered with beautifully decorated azulejos, which gives the interiors atmosphere and charm. More often, rustic houses use vibrant, juicy colours, covering large areas: facades, doors, walls.
If you are looking for a house in this style, then you should definitely be interested in Villa in Hacienda Las Chapas, surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens and numerous terraces where you will find both sun and shade from dusk to dawn.
Antiques, trinkets and plaids
Classic luxury villas can be decorated with antiques, old artworks and expensive trinkets or, in the case of simple houses, with traditional furnishings: wooden, craftsman-made furniture (for example with woven seats). Such a home can also be decorated in the recently fashionable boho style, with natural materials and soft, atmospheric lighting.
The style is perfectly exemplified in the 280-square-metre Villa in El Madroñal, with 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms and a huge garden and panoramic views of the countryside.
