Marbella is a city made for relaxation, leisure, luxury and… fun. It is full of charming corners, wide promenades and sea views. One of the city’s attractions is the Alameda Park, a green oasis in the heart of Marbella.
On the Costa del Sol you can breathe fully, enjoy nature with your eyes, soak up the sun, spend afternoons in cafes and dance until dawn in beach clubs. All this attracts people from all over the world to the Costa del Sol. No wonder that when looking for their place on earth, their dream home to buy in Spain, they end up in Marbella.
Many of the city’s residents head to the Alameda Park, located between the old town and the coast, on hot days. The park was created in the 18th century (like the Royal Baths in Warsaw) and originally covered 20,000m2. As a result of transformations in the 19th and 20th centuries, the grotto and pond were removed from it. The circular fountain decorated with azulejos – Fuente de la Virgen del Rocío – remains today from the classicist setting.
This huge green area, the authentic lung of the city, dates back to the 18th century and once covered an area of 20,000m2 (20% of the urban nucleus), bordered to the north by Fortaleza and Alameda streets, to the east by Avenida del Mar, to the west by Avenida Miguel Cano and to the south by Avenida del Fuerte up to the tunnel exit.
A walk in Marbella is not complete if you do not visit this emblematic place. In summer, relax in the shade of the lush trees among which stand out the magnificent Ficus Pandurata and Pinaceae, as well as Pinus Pinae and several rare and valuable botanical species.
The Alameda is an unusual garden, full of exotic plants such as fig trees and rubber trees. There are lots of charming corners and benches decorated with painted tiles featuring views of the city and scenes from its history.
Oasis in the city centre
The Alameda is a meeting place for the people of Marbella, relaxing in the shade of the trees, listening to birdsong and playing with their children. The park is surrounded by numerous restaurants and cafés.
From Alameda, it is not far to the casco antiguo – the old town with its beautiful narrow streets, full of restaurants, shops and boutiques offering Spanish and Andalusian-style souvenirs. Take a stroll towards the coast to visit an unusual exhibition in the city space – Salvador Dali’s original sculptures on Avenida del Mar. Alameda is a fantastic place to soak up the Andalusian atmosphere, before returning to the modern part of the city, full of luxury flats for sale, the most expensive yachts and cars in Spain.
Resting amidst nature
If you want to enjoy nature and be active, Marbella and its surroundings offer many excellent golf courses, mountain hiking trails and numerous activities for families with children. If you are a lover of beautiful views, you can also look around for a house with a view of the golf course or a flat at the foot of La Concha mountain, which offers panoramic views of the whole of Marbella and the coast.
