The Polish community in Spain already numbers around 100,000-120,000 people, and life on the Iberian Peninsula is becoming an increasingly attractive choice. The magazine ‘Hola Polacos’ is the answer to the needs of our compatriots – it not only provides up-to-date information about life in Spain, but also integrates.
What attracts the Iberian Peninsula?
The favourable climate and high quality of life are important factors, attracting both those seeking a better balance between work and leisure and those wishing to spend their retirement on the sunshine coast. Spain also offers attractive career opportunities. Cultural aspects such as the openness of society and the rich tradition are also important.
Cultural aspects also play an important role in the decision to live in Spain. The openness of Spanish society and its rich traditions make many Poles find themselves in this country, wishing to become part of its life. However, our compatriots living abroad, especially those who spend a longer period of time there, often find it difficult to maintain daily contact with their mother tongue and Polish culture. In response to these needs, the ‘Hola Polacos’ project was created.
For Poles in Spain
The magazine is a response to the diverse needs of Poles in Spain. “Hola Polacos” not only provides up-to-date information about life on the Iberian Peninsula, but also becomes a platform of integration for our community. The idea to create this project was born in March 2019, when its founder, Sebastian, decided to move to Malaga after living in Spain for a year. Inspired by an unsuccessful Polish community meeting to bring Poles together, he decided to explore the needs of the Polish community on the Costa del Sol, resulting in the creation of the ‘Hola Polacos’ project.
The first edition of the magazine was published in May 2019 with an initial print run of 500 copies. With the support of local companies, including Agnes Inversiones, the project has grown in popularity. The magazine is now distributed with a circulation of 2,000 copies from Sotogrande to Málaga, and the online version attracts around 6,000 visitors a year. The project’s social media generates between 5,000 and 7,000 visits per month, indicating a growing interest.
A magazine that connects
“Hola Polacos” plays a key role as a bridge between Poland and Spain. The magazine is a Polish-language source of information aimed at our compatriots, covering topics related to life on the Iberian Peninsula, local culture, events and the practical aspects of everyday life. Readers will find articles on legislation, health, tourism, as well as business. In addition, the magazine reports on events that integrate the Polish community – such as the WOŚP finale, local meetings and Polish holidays.
The magazine ‘Hola Polacos’ is available in around 70-80 outlets, and the regular collection points are mainly advertisers and Polish shops. At key partners, the magazine is practically always available:
- Agnes Inversiones in El Rosario Marbella – the largest, oldest and most recognisable Polish real estate office on the Costa del Sol and the main sponsor of the magazine. The company’s involvement contributes to raising awareness of the Polish community in the region.
- Oxygenspa in San Pedro de Alcantara Marbella – a renowned oxygen therapy centre where clients can not only receive health services, but also read the latest issue of ‘Hola Polacos’ magazine.
- Delises in Calahonda – a Polish-Ukrainian shop that has become one of the key distribution points, regularly attracting customers of different nationalities and giving them access to Polish culture and traditions.
In the few years of its existence, the ‘Hola Polacos’ project has evolved not only into a valuable source of information, but also into a key platform for integrating Poles on the Costa del Sol. The magazine actively promotes local initiatives, organises events and supports Polish businesses, which contributes to building a strong, integrated community. Thanks to the support of sponsors and partners, ‘Hola Polacos’ makes it easier for Poles in Spain to access valuable information that helps them in their daily life in their new country.
