This year’s winter in Europe is once again surprising. On the Iberian Peninsula, thermometers are showing temperatures unprecedented for this time of year. In some regions of Spain, including Andalusia, almost 30 degrees Celsius have been recorded! It is the sunny weather for more than 320 days a year, the beautiful views – including of the African coast or the magnificent beaches – that attract visitors to the Costa del Sol.
Andalusia is famous for its beaches
The Costa del Sol is synonymous with beautiful weather and luxury holidays. However, Marbella is not only known for its luxury homes and the Puerto Banús marina. Great golf courses, the proximity to the mountains or the many attractions attract tourists and celebrities to this resort. When going on holiday, it is worth looking at the offers of luxury houses and flats for rent – some of which have access to private pools with sea water or to the beach.
In the Marbella area alone, the beaches stretch for some 26 kilometres. There are more entertaining places to choose from, with Beach Clubs where you dance on the sand until dawn, but also quieter corners. Many people are looking for property on the Costa del Sol precisely near the beach, in the first line of the sea. One of the most beautiful beaches is considered to be Real de Zaragoza, 13 km from the city centre and the longest in Marbella. Where else is worth going to the beach?
Dolphins in Benalmadena
This is one of the most popular beaches on the coast. The reason for holidaying here is that it receives the so-called “blue flag” every year, which is a confirmation of quality and safety. For those who do not like to expose themselves to the sun’s rays for too long, we have very good news – on Malapesquera beach they will find plenty of wooded and shaded areas where they can hide. For those who prefer to be active on the beach, there are places to play volleyball or even football. It is also possible to see the site’s hosts, the dolphins, live here.
Nerja: sport and relaxation
One of the places to visit when visiting the Costa del Sol is Burriana beach in the town of Nerja (60 km from Málaga). What draws tourists to this place is the golden sand underfoot and the variety of bars and small seaside restaurants. The beach, which stretches for almost a kilometre, is located on Calle Filipinas street.
The place is also famous for one sport. This is sea kayaking, which not only allows you to visit other nearby beaches, but to see the area from a slightly different perspective. It is also close to the seaside promenade, where there are many restaurants in high season – so there is plenty to choose from.
In the town of Nerja, Playa de Maro is also worth a visit. It was voted the best beach in Andalusia more than a decade ago and still has the qualities that earned it this title. Tourists love to relax here – because of the crystal-clear water and the opportunity to relax surrounded by nature.
On the promenade in Torremolinos
15 kilometres from Malaga is the beach of de la Carihuela. This is the place of choice for those who prefer to spend more time in the sea. The water here is not only shallow but also extremely clear. It is possible to rest for more than 2 kilometres, so it is easy for every tourist to find a patch of beach suitable for him or herself. In the immediate vicinity of the beach, there is a promenade – a meeting place and evening entertainment for tourists and the local community.
A unique holiday in Malaga
For those who have decided to take a holiday in Malaga, the beach de La Malagueta is worth recommending. In the immediate vicinity of this leisure space is the famous sculpture with the name of the beach ‘Malagueta’. It is not only a place for those looking for sunbathing opportunities. Thanks to the numerous green areas, it is possible to hide in the shade from the sun’s rays while still having a unique view of the Mediterranean Sea. In one of the restaurants, it is worth tempting yourself with a local delicacy – espeto, or grilled sardines on a stick.
Estepona for diving enthusiasts
It is worth making the journey from Malaga to Estepona to reach the beach, which stretches for more than 2.5 km. This is an ideal place not only for sun lounging, but also for coastal walks – awarded the “blue flag” every year. In one of the local restaurants, for example, the pescaíto frito is worth trying. For lovers of diving, Maro beach is worth recommending. On the one hand, because of the crystal-clear depths of the water, on the other, because of the abundance of fish.
White sands in Tarifa
A trip outside Marbella? Preferably towards Tarifa, Zahara de Los Atunes or Colnil de la Frontera in the province of Cadiz. The paradise beaches of Tarifa, the southernmost city in Europe, attract surfers from all over the world. The city is popular for its excellent infrastructure, great surfing conditions or beautiful views of the African coastline. If you’re there, head to the restaurant at the Arte Vida Hotel on Los Lances beach. Lunch on the terrace overlooking Gibraltar is a very good way to spend an afternoon.
Golden sand in Marbella
Let’s return to Marbella. There are up to 26 kilometres of beaches to enjoy in the town. Among the must-visit places is Bounty Beach. This is one of the entertainment hubs of the town – the most popular on the Costa del Sol for anyone looking to party. The official name, which is worth typing into your navigation, is Playa del Cable. As dusk falls, the beach turns into one big dance floor.
One of the most popular beaches in the city is Cabopino. Here you will find not only golden sand and tranquillity, but also exceptionally crystal clear water. Tourists can relax for more than 1.5 kilometres. There is no shortage of bars and restaurants offering local specialities. There is also a separate area on the beach for … nudists.
Overlooking the sea and the mountains
Anyone who decides to visit Marbella should also visit Real de Zaragoza beach, about 13 km from the city centre. This is the longest beach in the area, where you can relax for more than 1,700 metres. Marbella has no shortage of fun beaches, but there are also some that will ideally suit the needs of families with children. These include Playa Hermosa (or Beautiful) beach, located 10 minutes from the centre of Marbella towards Malaga. There, we have everything that thirsty tourists are looking for – a picturesque view of the sea and, on the other hand, mountainous landscapes.
If Marbella, then also Nikki Beach – one of the most luxurious beaches on the coast. Nikki Beach is famous for its annual events, such as the opening of the season – ‘La Fiesta Blanca Grand Opening’ or the closing event of the season – ‘Fiesta de Clausura de Red’. This beach is located very close to the Costabel estate.
A breath of luxury on the Costa del Sol
A luxurious and comfortable holiday is also guaranteed at Playa Nagueles. This place is considered one of the most exclusive in Marbella. Here you can meet the famous and famous who are keen to relax in this resort. Relaxing on the beach, which is more than 800 metres long, is even more special when you add that here you can find very fine sand that turns golden in the sunshine. On the beach, you can rent not only water sports equipment, but also, for example, a luxury yacht.
While staying in Marbella, the lively Playa del Faro is also worth a visit. It takes its name from the lighthouse, which is undoubtedly one of Marbella’s attractions and is the most photographed landmark in the city. It is from this beach that you are closest to the luxury shops and restaurants.
All the beaches on the Costa del Sol are linked by the unique Senda Litoral coastal path. When completed, the entire route will be as long as 160 km, running along the diverse Andalusian coastline, where everyone will find a place that suits them and a way to explore it.
